The Last 2 Games...

The St. Thomas More boys soccer have had two games earlier this week. The first for the teams was at Germantown. The JV team was up first. It was the first game with there new coaches and only the second day with the coaches overall. The boys came out flat and got crushed 8-0. The varsity came up next. New season, new coaches, new players and the boys were ready to play. they came out strong and had goals from Matt Ziems and Evan Johnson, but Germantown out did them by scoring 3 goals.
The boys had another game against another solid team in Franklin. The JV team came out strong scoring 3 goals in the first half, Nolan Polwonski had 2 and Max Voss add one more. The boys came out strong in the second half and got one more goal from forward Cal Branger, before the game was called due to lightening. The lightening passed and the varsity was up. They came out weak and after Franklin's 2 goals in the first 20 minutes and missed chances by the Cavaliers, the boys lost the game 2-0.

Philip Suprise, sr., F, Milwaukee Pius: All-State first team last two seasons. Classic 8 Conference player of the year last two seasons. Scored 54 goals and 25 assists in 2008, despite being double- and triple-teamed all year. Has 115 career goals, believed to be a state record. Led Popes to sectional final. Area player of the year in 2007. Will play at Division I Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. One of the great scorers in state history; scored more than 100 goals in four years of high school, even though he played only a few matches as a freshman because of a broken foot.

Alberto Valle, sr., forward, Milwaukee Marquette: All-State first team. Greater Metro Conference first team. Twenty-five goals, nine assists for Division 1 state champion Hilltoppers. Scored game-winning goal in hard-fought, 1-0 overtime match against Homestead in state semifinal. "Without a doubt, was one of the top forwards in the state," Marquette coach Steve Lawrence said. "Most of the attention was on Robbie (Boyd), who freed things up for Alberto, and he made the most of it." Has not decided on a college.

Billy Vranek, sr., forward, Whitefish Bay: All-State first team. North Shore Conference first team. Twenty-two goals, eight assists, seven game-winning goals. Three-year starter for the Dukes, who reached sectional semifinals. "Very cerebral player who knows how to play both with his back to the goal as well going forward," Whitefish Bay coach Michael Kops said. "A versatile player who helped lead a very deliberate attack for us this season. Going to be a great asset to the college team that gets him."

Robbie Boyd, sr., midfielder, Milwaukee Marquette: Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association player of the year. All-State first team last two seasons. Greater Metro player of the year. Ten goals, 12 assists. Led team to Division 1 state title. Area player of the year. Committed to University of California-Santa Barbara.

"Extremely creative player; a perfect number 10," Central coach Jon Mroz said. "Dangerous on the dribble or with penetrating passes. Tremendously quick. I wouldn't trade him for any other player in the state."

Sean Gilbert, sr., midfielder, Arrowhead: All-State first team. Classic 8 first team. Twenty goals, five assists. Team captain who helped the Warhawks stay ranked in the top five almost the entire season. "Outstanding one-vs.-one player who is difficult to defend," Arrowhead coach Jeff Staus said. "One of the best finishers I've coached."

Andrew Wiedabach, sr., midfielder, Homestead: All-State first team. Received substantial support for state player of the year. North Shore player of the year. Twelve goals, 10 assists. Led Highlanders to Division 1 semifinals, where they lost to eventual champion Marquette, 1-0, in overtime. Will attend UW-Milwaukee. "Explosive one-on-one player," Wauwatosa West coach Mike Parulski said. "Made his teammates better. Outstanding stats and played an exceptionally difficult schedule. Took over games."

Aaron Cranfill, sr., defenseman, New Berlin West: All-State second team. Woodland first team, voted top defender in conference. Outstanding work rate, Parulski said. Extremely adept at winning balls at any spot in the field. Will attend Marquette.

Mark Haas, jr., defender, Milw. Marquette: All-State first team. Greater Metro first team. Five goals, one assist. Anchored backline for state champion Hilltoppers. Led a defensive group that allowed only seven goals.

Steven Perinovic, sr., defender, Kettle Moraine: All-State second team. Classic 8 first team. Ten goals, one assist. Captain and three-year starter. Dan Donovan, sr., goalkeeper, Milw. Marquette: All-State first team. Greater Metro first team. Allowed only six goals all year.
